Inspiration: Lorna Fencer

Artist Lorna Fencer (1920-2006), an Indigenous Australian was trained in the skill of body painting for women's ceremonies early in her life. Her art career "began" however when she started taking up the practice of painting on linen canvases in 1986, when she was 66. Her work is energetic, independent, and emotional much like the woman herself. She was a senior custodian of the Yarla Dreaming stories which tell of ancestral women from the Napurrula and Nakamarra groups searching for the bush potato, which are reflected in many of her works.
